We’re all going on a summer holiday…

July 18, 2009

Yes, that’s right, school’s out for summer! – or whatever I’m meant to say. It’s come to that time of the year where schools all over the country break up for the long summer holidays. Personally, last Saturday marked the end of the 14th year I have spent at my school (inc nursery and reception years). I’m sure you’ll agree 14 years is a long time to stay at the same school, and you’ll understand that during this time I’ve formed an attachment to it. In fact, I’d go so far as to say anyone who has been there for more than a year will have formed some sort of fondness for it, there is just something special about it, something I just can’t put my finger on. Despite our complaints, and its little faults, our school, and the experiences it has provided us with, has shaped the people that we are today. You’ve probably noticed that I’m incredibly proud of my school, it’s supported and helped my through a lot during my time there and as you’ve probably guessed I’m a little overwhelmed with the realisation that I have just one year left there. It’s been a huge part of my life (obviously) and I’ll be honest, the thought of leaving to go to university next September both excites and terrifies me.

However it’s not like the last few terms at school aren’t going to be interesting, I have A levels to complete, prefect duties to carry out, and plenty of plays I will do tech for. I suppose what I’m trying to say is, even though I have this short but exciting last stretch of schooling to complete before university, I’ll be trying my best to treasure each second and make the best of the time I have left there.

But enough of that, I’ve still got a seven week summer holiday to enjoy! That’s right, seven long weeks of freedom stretch before me like a road cutting through the dessert, and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to spend my new found free time to be honest. Of course I need to re-launch my quest for a job, continue my driving lessons (blog coming up about my experiences soon!), continue to look at university courses and do background research for my A2 courses, but what else? What’s going to keep me busy of an evening, or during the time I’m at home but not studying? Well I guess this brings me to the point of this post – I’ve started a blog! (just in case you haven’t noticed).

I’m not going to take the credit for the name ‘Photo Finish’, that belongs to Scott Woodwiss fellow f1 fan, blogger and member of the amazing Sidepodcast community. I originally asked for name suggestions over at Sidepodcast because of my plan lack of ability to come up with anything at least a half decent myself. However I hope you’ll agree that it’s the perfect name for a blog written by a formula 1 and photography enthusiast such as myself.

I don’t really have a clear idea as to how I’m going to develop my blog, but I’ll be writing about experiences, things that interest me or anything that grabs my attention. Topics could range from Formula 1 to my latest obsession or interesting thing that I come across; you know the usual blogging stuff.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read my post, hopefully they’ll be more soon, and you’ll stick around to have a look at those posts too.

    Yay!!

I’m really looking forward to what you’ll be posting lou. Concerning school, it’s always a culture shock when you leave school into a far wider world of possibilities and opportunities but I’m sure in time you’ll find the track you life will take and take the corners it presents just as smoothly as Jenson does on tracks worldwide. 😉

As I say though, definitely looking forward to what you have to say!

Finally, you have a blog. Been waiting way too long.

Obviously glad the summer has come, what I have learnt from this year is its non-stop. Coursework this and exam that. Next year I am expecting to be much worse. But hey, met loadsa friends at school, some lessons are great. I find Tech a load of fun, I have a brilliant Maths teacher. Some lessons drive you up the wall but gotta get that out my system for seven weeks. Possibly spend waay too much time on sidepodcast in that time. Then have to find out how I got on in my Maths exam on holiday so either have a really great second week or a really crap one.

Anyways, one complaint. Possible to reduce the size of the text in the comment box, tis massive?

Nice post. It’s always a good sign when someone writes an intro post that really doesn’t have a subject but flows nicely.

Leaving school is even more fun that being there. Just make sure when you have difficult times in your last year that you take time to remember the good bits. In the end those are the only bits you will remember so make sure there are a lot of them.
